Schools and Community GroupsStudents kindergarden through to grade 12 are invited to participate in an exhibition tour and hands-on studio workshop activity. Tours for children and youth are designed to foster a multi-dimensional approach to learning and use the current exhibitions as a starting point. The program is designed to provide an experimental dimension to the school curriculum. It seeks to foster visual and aesthetic literacy by engaging imaginations and encouraging creativity. |

We offer class visits annually September to June. School field trips introduce young people to the silica arts and to contemporary artworks. In the tour students discuss formal principles related to visual arts such as texture, colour, and form. We also encourage students to engage with objects to discover personal meaning and cultural significance. In the Studio Workshop students construct an object in a project that is designed for their age level. This will cultivate an improvement in tactile skill and creative problem solving. The gallery also offers expanded programming for children's community groups such as Brownies, Girl Guides, Scouts, Cubs, Big Brothers and Big Sisters. These visits are scheduled in the evenings. The group is given a tour of the current exhibition as well as an opportunity to construct an object in the studio workshop. |
