Formally and thematically Anong Migwans Beam's and Susan Collett's work shares a certain sensibility. Both have looked to ancient cultures, not their own, as inspiration for their ceramic work. Asian work, in particular, has been important to both of these artists. "Deduction" also relates to the fact that each of these artists employs a reductive technique in creating their most recent works. Anong Migwans Beam has recently exhibited at the Institute of the American Indian and the Gary Farmer Gallery both is Santa Fe, N.M. Susan Collett was the recipient of the first Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramists.
