Judy attended school at Calgary's Georgian College, achieving a first and second year scholarship in ceramics. After participating in Georgian College's Graduate Exhibition in 1983 she maintained a studio at home in Calgary until she relocated to Waterloo in 1989.

Judy has been important to the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery since 1992, when she had her first exhibition. She is a Past President of the Waterloo Potters' Workshop, and has taught adult classes there since 1990. In 1997 Judy won the Juror's Choice award, and in 1998 won the Primitive Firing Award.
